Lack of good diet

The lack of proper diet can also cause hair fall so don’t eat too much oily and junk food.

Hormones

DHT (dihydrotestosterone) is a hormone that is made through the conversion of a certain proportion of testosterone. Among people who are prone to hair loss, DHT sticks to receptors in hair follicles, which are responsible for the production of hair fibers which causes them to contract, produce thinner hair & finally die.

Stress

Continuous and undue mental stress can affect our well-being, resulting in multiple physical problems including hair loss. The hair growth cycle is such that stress does not cause immediate hair loss but after a time gap of 2-4 months. The nature of hair loss associated with stress is large daily hair fall, as the hair growth cycle is affected.

Lifestyle

Our lifestyle has been day by day degrading and we are becoming much lazier every day. It has resulted in plenty of diseases. It has also resulted in plenty of challenges also.

Environment and Atmosphere

The dust, pollution, and widespread dangerous gases are causing serious health problems and issues. Hairs are falling due to a bad environment.

Nutritional Deficiencies

If our diet is imbalanced and we are not getting all our nutrients, it might cause a loss of hair Nutrients that are necessary for strong, healthy hair.

Medical Conditions or Medication

Lupus or diabetes may cause hair loss. Some medicines for Hypertension or Statins (for managing Cholesterol) can also cause hair loss. Chemotherapy is accompanied by hair loss and often by complete balding.

Types of Hair fall

The three types of hair fall are as follows-

Types of Hair fall

Androgenic alopecia

Androgenic alopecia is a condition that causes gradual loss of hair in a specific pattern. The condition is genetic and can affect men and women although it is predominantly seen in men. The loss of hair begins from the front of the scalp and the crown and gradually covers the entire scalp save the portion above the back of the neck in some individuals.

Telogen effluvium

Telogen effluvium is a reactive process caused by metabolic or hormonal stress or by medications. Generally, recovery is spontaneous and occurs within 6 months, unless a background of pattern alopecia is present.

Alopecia areata

Alopecia areata is an auto-immune condition that presents itself in the form of areas on the scalp with complete hair loss in patches. The hair fall is sudden from an area of a diameter of 1-2cm and can increase in size and number. Initially, it is self-limiting and at times the hair growth comes back completely on the patch but as the immune disorder deepens, the number and the size of the patches increase leading to complete hair loss from the scalp called alopecia totalis and then from the whole body termed alopecia Universalis.

Prevention of hair fall

Here are some ways to prevent hair fall-

  • Shower with warm water instead of hot water.
  • Use a heat protectant whenever we use a heated styling tool and our hair is most vulnerable when it is wet. We should dry our hair on medium or low heat rather than high heat of the hairdryer, if we use a towel for drying we have to take good care of our hair, do not scratch our scalp.
  • Massage the scalp with essential oils.
  • Avoid overwashing because it can cause excess oil production.
  • Avoid shampoos that have harsh chemicals, use a mild shampoo also wash your hair twice a week instead of every day.
  • Use a brush with rounded teeth, harsh nylon bristles, and sharp teeth that may damage the hair and scalp.
  • Eat food loaded with omega-3 fatty acids like fish, walnuts, flaxseed, and fish oil supplement other recommended food like egg, milk, green tea, and avocado also avoid animal fat food like red meat.
  • Bleaching and dying hair so often can be harsh due to the chemicals present in it and it can lead to hair loss
  • Avoid daily heat styling, we should also try to stay away from high heat things such as a flat iron, curling iron, or blow dryer.
  • Keep stress under control. Stress can cause massive hair loss.

Treatment of hair fall

Effective treatments for some types of loss are available. But some hair loss is permanent. With some conditions, such as patchy alopecia, hair may regrow without treatment within a year. Treatments for hair loss include medications, surgery, laser hair therapy, and wigs or hairpieces. The doctors may suggest a combination of these approaches in order to get the best results. The goals of treatment are to promote hair growth, slow hair loss, or hide hair loss.

Medication

If hair loss is caused by an underlying disease, treatment for that disease will be necessary. This may include drugs to reduce inflammation and suppress our immune system, such as prednisone. If a certain medication is causing hair loss, the doctor may advise us to stop using it. Medications are also available to treat pattern baldness.

Surgery

In the most common type of permanent hair loss, only the top of the head is affected. Hair transplant or restoration surgery can make the most of the hair that is left.

During this procedure, the surgeon removes tiny plugs of skin, each containing a few hairs, from the back or sides of our scalp. They then implant the plugs into the bald sections of the scalp. We may be asked to take a hair loss medication before and after surgery to improve results. Surgical procedures to treat baldness are expensive and can be painful. Possible risks include infection and scarring.

Laser Hair Therapy

Laser Hair Therapy uses ray light to effectively treat the appearance of hair loss in both men and women. Laser treatment delivers light energy directly from revolving ray positions designed to cosmetically treat the appearance of thin, fragile, and damaged hair.

Wigs and hairpieces

We can also try a wig or a hairpiece as an alternative to medical treatment or if we don’t respond to treatment. It can be used to cover either permanent or temporary hair loss. Quality, natural-looking wigs, and hairpieces are available.
